Scaling Mountains in Cell Therapy Manufacturing

Growing up, many of us became familiar with the children’s song, ‘The Bear went Over the Mountain’.  In this nursery rhyme (of sorts) a bear that succeeds in scaling a mountain only does so to encounter yet another one right behind it, waiting there to be scaled.  And so on.

As the industry continues to grow and cell therapy developers’ needs continue to increase in complexity and criticality, PCT will continue to take on challenging new mountains. This is a direct result of our growth—our success and our position in the industry. And one critical aspect to the success and growth of our business is the need to maintain focus on ongoing management and strengthening of client relationships as means of facilitating the delivery of existing program milestones. So what do we need to do to keep moving forward efficiently as new mountains come into view?

The answer is that we need to change the paradigm; to adapt, and to do so in a way that meets with the unique challenges and opportunities associated with our new reality. To this end, we have appointed Business Leaders, identifiable and empowered individuals within our organization, accountable for business growth and our clients’ customer experience at PCT. It therefore gives me great pleasure to announce that two of our current and valued employees will be taking on new roles: Thomas Heathman, PhD, will serve as the Business Leader for the technology and product development programs, as well as our GTP services. Sanjin Zvonic, PhD, will serve as the Business Leader for the clinical and future commercial contract manufacturing programs.

Our Business Leaders will be responsible for all aspects of the business, including:

  • Enabling service excellence by facilitating effective, efficient and timely delivery of PCT services against client needs by coordinating internal efforts to identify and resolve service, resource and capability constraints against set goals
  • Enabling operational excellence to drive both PCT’s growth and market competitive advantage by championing internal efforts to streamline and optimize PCT’s operational efficiency, capability and capacity
  • Alliance management to ensure the delivery of PCT services generates value and positive customer experience for our clients by maintaining operational and strategic alignment between clients and PCT
  • Driving business growth by identifying client and market needs, and then lead internal efforts to develop competitive services and offerings to address them, and
  • Identifying market trends and then lead internal efforts to ensure PCT’s growth and development trajectory is aligned with the marketplace

With these new roles in place, each client’s primary technical day-to-day contact will continue to be their Project Manager, ensuring a seamless transition and an uninterrupted day-to-day experience for our clients. In their roles, Tom and Sanjin will report directly to me, empowering them to execute on their role objectives. By virtue of their focus on cell therapy and respective proven track records, I am confident that Tom and Sanjin are going to support our clients’ evolving needs in a highly effective way.

Onward and upward!
